Jack Michael is Here!

Jack joined our family 22 days ago on July 4th at 4:06pm weighing 7lbs 15oz. He was 21 inches long.

The last few weeks have been a blur of nursing, changing diapers, and trying to rest when I can without neglecting my 5 year old daughter. The newborn stage is rough, but we are getting through it.

So far, my narcolepsy symptoms are still mostly manageable, though I am always tired and frequently fighting sleep attacks. I’m not sleeping well since Jack grunts in his sleep A LOT. His favorite place to sleep is on my chest, so that makes it even more difficult for me to sleep. I’ve been working on getting him to sleep in the pack n’ play in the living room while I sleep on the couch. I hope to either move the pack n’ play to my room or maybe even try to put him in his crib in his room soon. I miss my bed and sleeping next to my husband!

One question I’ve seen come up a few times in the Facebook groups is how/if cataplexy affects childbirth. I did experience some cataplexy while in labor, but it was fairly mild as it was during my pregnancy. Once I got the epidural, it stopped for the most part. As for actually birthing the baby, I was so focused on the task at hand that I wasn’t processing any emotion and therefore had no cataplexy. I was able to give birth just fine! Thank goodness!

Now that I’ve got the WordPress app installed and updated on my phone, I hope to be able to start blogging again. I should have lots of time since I’m awake with baby boy every 1.5 to 3 hours depending on when he wakes to eat. And maybe someday we will get on a semi-regular schedule… And maybe someday little man will nap in his own bed!
