PT Week 6 – An Ongoing Process

This week was my sixth week of physical therapy and my EIGHTH week of not running.  Time flies, even when you’re not having fun. 😉  Even though abstaining from running has not been ideal, I have learned a lot.  Hopefully, we I do start running again, I can do it smartly.

I’m happy to report that I’ve been mostly pain free this week, except for on Sunday after walking around the lake with my family.  Even sitting in my chair at work is getting a little easier, though I do make sure I get up for at least a few seconds every half hour or hour.  Sitting is the worst thing ever for someone with a back injury.  I also had some soreness after PT on Thursday, but it wasn’t from a pinched nerve!  It was good ol’ muscle fatigue from increasing weight on the leg press machine and adding some more reps.

The biggest struggle I had this week was keeping my head in the game.  With the beautiful weather, I’ve seen lots and lots of people out there running.  I’ve had to fight off the green-eyed monster, Jealousy, more than once and stop myself from getting too gloomy about not being able to run.   It will come soon….

I also visited the chiropractor once this week.  My lower back and hips did not require an adjustment – progress!  He did pop my back between my shoulder blades where there was a lot of tension.  It felt pretty darn good.  I know I was totally against going to the chiropractor, but I am glad I gave it a chance.  In moderation, I think it’s a good thing.  I’ll never be one of those people that goes weekly, but maybe occasionally.

Jen and Frank said I will most likely be discharged from PT after next week.  After that, the chiropractor is putting in orders for me to participate in a six week exercise program offered by my hubby’s employer’s fitness center in conjunction with our health and wellness program.  It’s free, so that will be awesome.  Physical therapy has not been cheap.  I’m hoping the trainers there can help me ease back into running safely.  I probably need the additional supervision, too, if I’m being honest.  I have a tendency to jump in too deeply too soon, and I don’t want to end up back at PT.

Thank goodness for relief!
